Totems and Titans
The new fusion skills are offering a lot of options, but also a lot of questions: "what are the best skills to put on my totems?" It's not easy to answer, as there are many viable combinations that are good in specific situations. Also totem skills interact when you use two totems in your team. And you do not want the same skills in the same team because they do not add up.
Therefore there won't be a true analysis of standalone fusion skills, although i will provide some general informations for the skills. Instead i will present different setups of skills in its full context and the teams it offers:
1. Standard All-around setup
2. Frosty's Special setup :)
3. Balancing CoW defense setup
But first some general tips.
1. Adding the first skill: use 10 catalyst once(!)
2. Upgrading skills: spend 100 catalyst each time - with one exception!
3. Changing skills: spend 10 catalyst per try on rank 5
4. Bad Luck Protection "Crystallized Might" (CM) should be used on rank 4 skills only
5. Elemental skills are "better" than their primal counterparts
6. The "active" elemental skills scale better than the "passive" ones
7. Depths Whisper has the highest numbers, but Murmur of the Crags has the shortest delay (of the active skills)
8. The best discount / f2p skills: Wrath of Depths & Ice Age
9. Echo Aegis and Triple Cycle have a strong synergy with Earth teams and should be picked for an Earth team on defense
Fusion setup 1: All-around Standard
- Water: Depths Whisper & Pulse of the Ancients
- Fire: Last Flash & Primal Zeal
- Earth: Murmur of the Crags & Echo Aegis
- Dark*: Murmur of the Crags & Primal Zeal
- Light: Ice Age & Triple Cycle
This is a widely used setup, and for good reasons: its overall very balanced. Let's look at the Pros and Cons:
STRENGTHS:
- No overlap in skills among Light, Fire, Water and Earth
- Some strong options vs. the many Earth teams around
- The 3x Earth + 2x Water team is one of the strongest options vs buffed up Earth/Light teams
- Can beat non-earth teams very reliably, too
- Overall very strong defense setup for Earth/Light teams (esp. due to the strong Echo Aegis & Triple Cycle interaction)
WEAKNESSES:
- Arguably not the very best defense, as Depths Whisper on Earth seems overall a bit better, esp. with CoW dmg reduction buffs in Sun Temple (ST) and Gates of Nature (GoN)
- Cannot reliably beat 5x Earth teams in Gates of Nature (GoN) that have Depths Whisper. And only has one team to reliably beat 5x Earth in GoN with Murmur of the Crags - and it will use the titans needed in other teams vs. Earth.
- Fire/Light team is not great vs enemy earth teams, mostly due to Ice Age. Although it might still work with manual play (esp. waiting with activation of totems)
However, this setup is overall probably the best for the majority of players - i.e. probably 15-20 players of a guild, esp. as attacking teams are kinda straightforward - while setup 2 needs more variation to adjust to different teams. But you want to have some other skill setups to beat specific enemy teams reliably and make the best out of the variety of defensive buffs.
*Note that the DARK fusion skills are currently a bit of a dark horse (pun intended) with the 5th dark titan still missing. For now Murmur & Primal Zeal work very well for both Dark&Light teams and Dark&Fire teams, as shown below. In order to avoid overlaps with the other four elements, skills like Call of the Elements or Wrath of the Depths can make sense. But i cannot guarantee that the Dark teams presented below will still work as intended ...
What team to use on defense
Defense is very straightforward 3x Earth and 2x Light ("3E2L") for GW and one team in CoW. Which is also pretty solid as a default defense team in Tournaments of Elements (ToE).
The second light titan can be anyone, except Amon at least. I personally prefer Rigel over Iyari. I haven't done enough testing with Lumira yet, but she could fill that spot potentially, too.
For the 2nd CoW team you have some options: 5x Water or 3W2F with Nova tanking both do well in Bastion of Ice. Or a heavy Dark team in Moon Temple, as well as 5x Fire or Fire/Dark teams for Bastion of Fire.
Which teams to use for attacking
I will show a list of the most relevant teams for attacking vs. the different defensive teams. This list can easily be extended, but i think it will cover what you usually see especially in CoW. That's also the reason for the huge focus on fighting Earth teams, because you usually have up to 30 earth (and light) teams in a CoW match ... out of 40. When i refer to an "unbuffed" team, it means it doesn't have a special CoW buff. Which is also true for any team outside CoW.
Note that i consider this same totem setup for the presented enemy teams. I will also use abreviations to label the titan lineup using letters and numbers for the elements and numbers of titans.
1. 3F2D and 3W2F Nova tank (w/ Vulcan)
With the amount of Earth/Light teams in CoW, these two teams might easily be the most used, as you can attack with both in a single CoW match.
- Both work reliably vs Avalon-Verdoc-Eden-Solaris-IYARI (unbuffed)
- The Nova-team also works reliably vs RIGEL-Avalon-Verdoc-Solaris-Eden with 16% buff in Sun Temple. But it might not be that effective vs. that same team being unbuffed!
- The Dark/Fire team is also very reliable vs Avalon-Verdoc-Eden-Solaris-LUMIRA (unbuffed)
2. 3E2W Avalon tank
This is the most reliable team vs RIGEL-Avalon-Verdoc-Solaris-Eden, even with very high CoW buffs, like 32% GoN or 80% BoF. Its only around 50-60% win rate vs. those two, but better than most options i know.
3. 3W2F Nova tank with Araji
This is for CoW Gates of Nature (GoN) with 5x Earth teams - numbers are for the max 40% buff:
- Around 100% win rate vs 5x Earth with Murmur & Echo Aegis
- Around 65% win rate vs 5x Earth with Dephts Whisper & Echo Aegis
Ideally you dont attack into 5E that has Depths Whisper with the team. Also using this team means you cannot reliably beat another Earth team anymore (Araji is gone!) and therefore should use Dark/Light on BoF or BoI as 2nd attack.
4. Dark/Light teams
This is very reliable vs.
- all kinds of Fire teams in CoW Bastion of Fire (BoF)
- Nova tank teams in CoW Bastion of Ice (BoI)
This 3L2D is the default lineup and most likely to work, but different setups on the enemy side might make adjustments necessary - Brustar for Rigel for example. But even seemingly weird lineups (for example with Mort tanking) might be the right thing to do ...
5. 5x Light
This works very reliably vs 5x Water teams, incl. (max) 60% buff in CoW Bastion of Ice (BoI)!
6. 3F2L (mostly) for manual play
As said above, this setup is not very reliable vs. any common earth team that has maxed and well chosen skills. But it might still work well vs. weaker Earth teams ... or on manual play:
- when you wait on activating your light totem until enemies light totem is used
- or you wait with activating your fire totem until your Araji is done channeling his ultimate (vs enemy Ice Age that would interrupt Araji)
If you replace Ignis with Vulcan it can be fairly reliable (around 90%) on auto vs (unbuffed) Rigel-Avalon-Verdoc-Solaris-Eden teams. But you would lose Vulcan for a Water/Fire team with Nova tanking ... not sure if Ignis would be good there.
7. 3E2L Rigel tank
This is very reliable vs Dark/Light teams, incl. high buffs in CoW Sun and Moon Temple (ST, MT). I would not rule out that some adjustments can make it more effective vs. specific enemy lineups.
Please note that these attacking teams might work with other fusion skill setups and vs. defending teams with different fusion skills, too - but it is not guaranteed!
Fusion setup 2: Frosty's Special
- Water: Last Flash & Primal Zeal
- Fire: Dephts Whisper & Triple Cycle
- Earth: Dephts Whisper & Echo Aegis
- Dark*: Murmur of the Crags & Primal Zeal
- Light: Ice Age & Triple Cycle
This is my setup and i am quite happy with it. Light & Dark are the same as in setup 1. Earth now has Depths Whisper that makes it better vs. Earth teams and is (for my experience) more resilient in CoW Buildings with damage resistance buff. But the most noticeable difference is that Water and Fire switch Elemental and (partly) Primal skills. D. Whisper is very strong vs. Earth in general, esp. slow 5x Earth teams. Triple Cycles buff triger a lot from D. Whispers healing and fire titans attack buffs, esp. in 5x Fire teams. Last Flash on Water allows for a very strong Water/Earth team ...
STRENGTHS:
- The 3x Earth + 2x Water team with Nova tanking is the strongest team vs. buffed up Earth/Light teams that i know
- D. Whisper on Fire totem improves its performance vs. Earth teams, esp. 5x Earth in CoW Gates of Nature
- Can beat non-earth teams very reliably, too
- Arguably the strongest defense setup for your E/L team (esp. due to the strong Echo Aegis & Triple Cycle interaction), esp. in CoW buffed locations
WEAKNESSES:
- Has quite a bit of overlap, esp. for Primal skills.
- Only has around 90% win rates vs. standard Earth/Light team with Lumira
- Fire/Light team is not great vs enemy earth teams, mostly due to Ice Age. Although it might still work with manual play (esp. waiting with activation of totems)
This setup is overall very versatile, but maybe a bit more restricted due to overlapping skills. It is good to have on a few players in the guild to esp. address Earth teams with strong CoW buffs like in Gates of Nature or Sun and Moon Temple. And to use the Earth/Light teams in the same buildings on defense with their D. Whisper. Overall this setup is a bit more complicated to play on offense because it requires more different lineups to address different defense teams.
Next up the teams for this setup. Note that Teams 1 to 4 can be used together in a single CoW match. Same is true for teams 5 to 10.
What team to use on defense
Defense is very straightforward 3x Earth and 2x Light ("3E2L") for GW and one team in CoW. Which is also pretty solid as a default defense team in Tournaments of Elements (ToE). This is esp. good for buffed buildings in CoW like Gates of Nature and Sun Temple, but also Bastion of Fire.

For the 2nd CoW team you have some options: 5x Water or 3W2F with Nova tanking both do well in Bastion of Ice. Or a heavy Dark team in Moon Temple, as well as 5x Fire or Fire/Dark teams for Bastion of Fire.
Attacking teams
1. 3E2W Nova tank
This is the star of the setup and the most reliable team vs RIGEL-Avalon-Verdoc-Solaris-Eden, even with very high CoW buffs, like 32% GoN or 80% BoF. Its 85% and 50% win rate vs. those two and better than anything i know. Also very reliable vs other Earth/Light teams, although sometimes not quite 100% (at least vs skill setup #1 above). And unfortunately, the losses can be devastating and leave a full health team behind.
2. 5x Fire
This is mostly vs. 5x Earth in Gates of Nature with the standard Murmur of the Crags skill. With paywalled skins (from ToP) its around 95% win rate. W/out the paywalled skins only 80%. Still usually worth the risk. It can also work very well vs weaker Earth teams or those with suboptimal fusion skills.
3. 3F2D
This is a very reliable option vs Avalon-Verdoc-Eden-Solaris-IYARI (unbuffed)
4. 3F2L (mostly) for manual play
Adjusting the team with Araji, Vulcan, Lumira or Rigel can help, depending on the enemy lineup.
5. 3F2W with Hyperion
This works very reliably (around 90%) vs. 5x Earth with Depths Whisper in CoW Gates of Nature. Also very reliable vs unbuffed RIGEL-Avalon-Verdoc-Solaris-Eden.
6. 3F2W with Nova
This seems to be the best option vs Avalon-Verdoc-Solaris-Eden-LUMIRA (unbuffed), but its still only around 90% (vs. fusion setup 1 at least).
8. 5x Light
This works very reliably vs 5x Water teams, incl. (max) 60% buff in CoW Bastion of Ice (BoI)!
9. 3E2L Rigel tank
This is very reliable vs Dark/Light teams, incl. high buffs in CoW Sun and Moon Temple (ST, MT). I would not rule out that some adjustments can make it more effective vs. specific enemy lineups.
10. 5x Earth
This is a bit of a last resort option vs weaker Earth teams or those with suboptimal fusion skills. But it is not very reliable vs. standard Earth/Light with fusion setup 1. Best shot there is the IYARI version (55% win rate). It would be a lot better with Primal Zeal instead of Echo Aegis though ...
Please note that these attacking teams might work with other fusion skill setups and vs. defending teams with different fusion skills (than skill setup 1), too - but it is not guaranteed!
Fusion setup 3: Balancing CoW defense
- Water: Dephts Whisper & Pulse of the Ancients
- Fire: Dephts Whisper & Triple Cycle
- Earth: Murmur of the Crags & Echo Aegis
- Dark: Ice Age & Triple Cycle
- Light: Last Flash & Primal Zeal
This one is there to balance out the defense in CoW and offer good defense teams for Moon Temple (with Dark taking the side of Earth teams) and Bastion of Ice (Nova tank teams with Light support). You do not need many players with this setup, up to 4 is enough to potentially fill both Moon Temple and Bastion of Ice.
STRENGTHS:
- Allows very strong and tailored defense teams for CoW Moon Temple and Bastion of Ice
- The 3x Earth + 2x Water team is one of the strongest options vs buffed up Earth/Light teams
- D. Whisper on Fire totem improves its performance vs. Earth teams, esp. 5x Earth in CoW Gates of Nature ...
- ... which makes the Fire/Light team very strong now vs. Earth teams in general. Also thanks to dropping Ice Age (which is sub optimal vs Earth) and having Last Flash instead.
WEAKNESSES:
- The Earth/Light teams is not great on defense because it lacks Ice Age to properly defend vs. Fire teams. Which is however a non-issue in CoW, at least for the first 4 players using this setup.
- The Dark/Light team might be a little handicapped compared to the other setups. But i have to admit that i did not test this intensively!
This setup is overall very important to have, albeit only on a few players ideally. Its great for both CoW defense in MT and BoI, as well as good on the attack vs. two stronger Earth teams.
What teams to use on defense
As discussed above, CoW defense should be set to 3E2D for Moon Temple and 3W2L with Nova tanking for Bastion of Ice.
There can be adjustment of course, like Mort and Angus for Brustar and Avalon in the upper team and Lumira or Mairi for the bottom team. But the two lineups in the picture seem to be the best choice.
In GW i would probably set up the 3E2D team. Although 3E2L could still be ok with Last Flash.
Attacking teams
I keep this simple as in CoW you really want to do your two attack with these two teams to attack two (strong!) enemy Earth teams.
Adjustments are possible for the Fire/Light team, like adding Asherona, Vulcan or Lumira. But i would be surprised if there is a useful adjustment for the Earth/Water team.
Also note that the Nova-tank team with Light (see defending teams) can be a nice option for attacking.
Please note that these attacking teams might work with other fusion skill setups and vs. defending teams with different fusion skills (than skill setup 1), too - but it is not guaranteed!
